Foreign Licensed Motor Vehicles
Enter China with your own motor vehicle -
motorcycle or 4-wheeled vehicle - to complete
driving across the continent or to explore
China. We can make the arrangements for you to
enter and drive in China.
To enter and drive your foreign licensed motor
vehicle in China requires prearrangement of permits
and licenses. For Xinjiang-only entry and exit
it typically takes about 1.5 months to process
paperwork. Popular entry points and routes are
to enter Xinjiang via Torugart Pass or
Irkeshtam Pass and drive to Kashgar and then
exit over Khunjerab Pass on the Karakoram
Highway to Pakistan. The reverse of this route
is identical when it comes to organizing.
For entry into and driving
inter-province (through more than one province)
up to 4 months is required to process
paperwork. Driving across China is complicated
by needing many more permits with paperwork
going through Beijing. A popular route to drive
is to enter from Laos at Mengla and to drive
across China, exiting through Xinjiang to
Central Asia at Korgas, Torugart Pass or
Irkeshtam Pass. Entry and exit via Khunjerab
Pass is also an option. Sadly, at this writing inter-province travel by foreign licensed motorcycles is not allowed. There may be a possibility for travel between Xinjiang and Tibet which allows for entry/exit to/from Nepal, Pakistan, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakistan.
