The director of Xinjiang & Tibet Expeditions is Mr. Zhang Jian Qiang, whose English name is "Wayne". Wayne has a degree in physics and prior to becoming a guide taught high school physics. In 1992 Wayne began guiding, eventually working for the Xinjiang Mountaineering Association. In 2005, Wayne started his own company, Xinjiang Tian Lu. Wayne has organized and guided treks and expeditions in the Pamirs to Muztagh Ata, Kongur and Chakragil Peaks, in the Karakoram to K2, Gasherbrum 1 & 2, and Broad Peak, and he has lead expeditions to Everest, Cho Oyu, and Shishibangma in Tibet. He has organized Muztagh Ata climbing expeditions every year since 1998. He has personally guided treks to K2 seven times. Additionally, he has organized and guided expeditions to the Tian Shan Mountains and in the Taklimakan and Gobi Deserts. Wayne also specializes in arranging foreign-licensed motor vehicle (including motorcycles) entry and travel in Xinjiang and China-wide.

In addition to Wayne other staff are:

Xiao Cao - cook. Muztagh Ata and K2 expeditions. Some expeditions have joked that if they couldn't summit, it was because they gained too much weight from his good cooking.

Liu Tang - cook. Muztagh Ata climbing expeditions and desert trekking expeditions. Xiao Tang makes great noodles by hand!

Xiao Gao - cook. Mr. Gao cooks for  Muztagh Ata expeditions.  

He Yi - cook. He works on Muztagh Ata, K2 and Taklimakan Desert expeditions.

Mao Le - guide. His English name is "Jason". Jason is an English-speaking trekking vehicle tour guide. He guides Muztagh Ata expeditions.

Alijan - guide. Alijan is a Uyghur, English-speaking trekking and expedition guide. He has guided treks and expeditions in the Muztagh Ata area and to K2.

Xiao Cheng - cook and general handy man. He will go where asked to go and do what needs to be done.
